Spiritual Formation

Understanding the Role of the Holy Spirit in the Life of the Believer

  • Spiritual Formation is the study of how our soul, mind, and character are shaped through the work of the Holy Spirit, and how we participate in that work to become more like Christ

  • Spiritual formation entails spiritual theology, which is the study of the third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, and how He works in the life of the believer

  • Spiritual formation also relates to the spiritual disciplines—activities that we can practice in order to open ourselves up to the Spirit of God and His transforming power

  • Spiritual formation also entails a deep engagement with one’s own knowledge of self, to include one’s personal history. This can open the way for the Spirit to redeem very specific parts of a believers life, like their emotions

  • A typical question that Spiritual Formation tries to answer is this: “When you pray what is your experience of God like?” or “How do you think your childhood has affected your ability to see God for who He really is?”
